DESTROYER ROBOT

This was created on the computer pretty much the same way it would be created in 3 dimensions. I drew one block first. I made a block shaded 3 different tones on 3 different sides. After that the bulk of the drawing was finished.

I copied that block and started stacking pieces together the same way I'd stack real blocks together. There are a few non-block elements but it's mostly the same block either squashed or stretched.

  1. naturally I LIKE IT - - but I really appreciate the color scheme and the way you shaded under his "carriage" and feet pads. Very spiffy.. so what's his name? "Blocky?" :)

  3. That's exactly how I drew this: http://bobcanada92.blogspot.com/2009/09/robot-runamuck.html

It's good, but don't bother sending it to Threadless! They hate robots.

  4. I love this!

Your description of the way you "created" this in the computer made me smile. I love to draw and scan and tart up an illo in SBP or P-Shop, but I also like to make create shapes and manipulate them in the computer. I've not done it nearly enough:...it's usually a robot of some sort.

Love how we are looking up at this robot, seeing under him, adding to his perceived height.

Do you know Luc Latulippe's work? I'll send you a link.

  5. Thanks Bob and Willy,
I hadn't heard of Luc Latulippe so I looked him up. His stuff is great! I see he has some block-headed robot t-shirt designs. I guess he didn't use Threadless.
